FCV’s First College Graduate

Congratulations Maureen Tembo on Graduating from Physical Therapy School with a Diploma in Physical Therapy!

We are very excited about Maureen’s accomplishments and are very proud of all of her hard work and diligence that she exhibited to get to this place.  Maureen worked very hard all through school!

Maureen came to Faith Children’s Village fourteen years ago, when FCV was founded.  Growing up at the Village has afforded her the opportunity to receive a good education, loving care and discipleship.  In 2006, while attending school at Faith Baptist Church in Riverside, she came to recognize her sinful condition and repented and asked God for forgiveness, and surrendered her life to the Lord.  She strives to serve Him every day in all she does.

Please pray for Maureen, as she looks for employment as a Physical Therapist.  She is making preparations now in the job application process.  Thank you to the many who have invested in her life and have helped her to become successful in her walk with the Lord and in her education.  Please pray that she will go forth into this culture and make an impact for Christ!

A Time To Celebrate…

Ecclesiastes 3:1 says: “There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven:”

Birthdays give us an opportunity to celebrate each individual child.  At the end of each month we take time at Faith Children’s Village to celebrate those children who have had a birthday during that month.

During the day’s activities we set aside time to have devotion or a special biblical message, worship in song, play organized games and finish with singing to the birthday children.  Last but not least, we all eat cake!!

We strive to take every opportunity to disciple the children of FCV.  We endeavor to demonstrate Christ’s love and care for our children in many ways and the birthday celebration is one way we do that.

This month we played “find the pom-pom”

and relay games, and the children had to work in teams to construct a giraffe out of pipe cleaners.

After the games, Brian Cameon shared a devotion from Matthew 25:14-30 on the Parable of the Talents.  It was a time of great encouragement for the children to utilize the gifts they have been uniquely given by God.

We recognize the privilege we have in caring for these precious children and we do not take for granted the opportunities we have to encourage and minister to them.  We are grateful for each person who makes this ministry possible.

Growing in the Grace and Knowledge of the Lord

Psalm 18 verse 2″The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer, my God, my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.”  Psalm 18 verse 19 “He brought me out into a broad place; he rescued me, because he delighted in me.”

Most of the children who come to Faith Children’s Village and call it home, come from heart-wrenching backgrounds.  As they are discipled, those who come to trust in Christ as their personal Lord and Savior can truly say “The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer…”  It is beautiful to see these precious ones take refuge in the Lord.

Two such children are Alright and Brenda V.  They have called FCV home since 2009.  Both of their parents passed away when they were very young.  The above psalm, in it’s entirety, is one that Brenda clings to and cherishes.  This sibling pair has thrived at the Village.

Alright is in Grade 11 at Kitwe Boys Secondary School.  He begins his days early and returns late in the afternoon.  He is a dedicated student.  In his spare time, he has learned to play the xylophone, guitar and violin  Alright also finds great joy in singing at Church.

Brenda attends Kakolo Basic School nearby and is in Grade 9.  She values time on Saturdays when she attends teen Bible Study.

Both Alright and Brenda have made salvation decisions and are striving to follow Gods instructions for their lives.

We are so very thankful to all those who have made a lasting impact in their lives.  We eagerly anticipate what the Lord will do in and through Alright and Brenda.

Faith Children’s Village – Amano Academy Students Excel

We are privileged at Faith Children’s Village to have our primary school on site to serve not only the young children of FCV, but also some of the children from the surrounding community.

Amano (Wisdom) Academy opened in 2013 and educates a total of 60 students in grades 1-7.  Forty-four of these either reside at FCV or have parents on staff.  Sixteen of our students are either orphaned or vulnerable and live in the surrounding village.  Although most of those who live in the village of Kakolo are impoverished, many are in dire situations.  We’ve taken time in chapel this year to encourage our students to have a heart for those who are most needy.   We challenge our older students to seek out and help the younger ones in our school family.  Those who excel academically are urged to tutor or read to those who struggle.  We desire for our students to focus less on themselves and more on serving others.

At the conclusion of each term we recognize those students who attained at average of 85% or better in all of their subjects.  In the government schools, students pass a given subject when they earn at least a 40%.  We aim higher.  We desire that our students excel and work hard.  God has blessed them with the opportunity to learn and grow and achieve.  At the end of Term 1, nearly half of our students were recognized and awarded for having an average of 85% or better.  We are so thankful for these children who work hard and understand the value of their education.  Congratulations to all!

FCV News – February

Faith Children’s Village News

Greetings from Faith Children’s Village

A new year has begun and that marks the start of a new academic year at Faith Children’s Village.  School is an important and life changing part of a child’s development at Faith Children’s Village.  Our children who have not had opportunity to study and learn are now realizing their dreams of reading and writing.

Two children who are excited about school are Rachel and Leah Katongo.  In October, 2007 Rachel and Leah’s mom died while giving birth to these girls. Their father was unable to care for these two newborn children.  Through the efforts of Pastor Mwanisa of Faith Baptist Church in Kakolo and FCV missionary nurse Helen Berman, Faith Children’s Village welcomed these two little girls into the FCV family.  Today Rachel and Leah are cheerful, energetic, well-adjusted 4th graders.  When asked what one thing they are most thankful for, both will answer with a big smile “being able to go to school.” Leah wants to be a teacher one day and Rachel has a future dream of becoming a nurse.

Every child at Faith Children’s Village has future dreams and ambitions.  Please keep our children in prayer asking the LORD to provide them with academic wisdom and perseverance to achieve His will for their lives.

The first day of 4th grade at Amano Academy is full of smiles and fun for Leah (L) and Rachel (R). True to their entertaining nature, the girls demonstrate how two people can play one violin!
We are also excited to congratulate Shadreck Banda, Memory Kabwe and Natasha Mwaba for successfully passing their Grade 9 national examinations! Failure to pass these standardized exams means the child must rewrite or stop school! You can imagine how excited these guys are to now be enrolled in Grade 10 classes!

This year it is our goal to welcome 11 new children to the Village. This will bring the number of children who call FCV home from 64 to 75. We bear a great responsibility for every new child that comes into our family. Please pray for God’s provision, wisdom and guidance as we work through the applications and make decisions on who we should accept. Watch our FCV Facebook page and website for updates and photos!

We are so grateful to have you walking beside us as we minister to the children at FCV. Thank you for your unceasing prayers, support and words of encouragement. May GOD continue to richly bless each of you.

Humbly yours,

Pastor Mukuka Chilando
Director – Faith Children’s Village
