Zambia Prayer Update
Thanksgiving in Zambia
November 2008
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ |
|
Dear Friend,
Thanksgiving in Zambia was celebrated with a meal and afternoon of fellowship with our missionary family. Chicken was substituted for turkey, and the desert table had pumpkin pie - my all time favorite!
We are thankful to God for His blessings upon our family. It is a privilege to serve the Lord here in the center of Africa. We thank God for the growing family of friends around the world who God has used to touch our lives. We are so thankful for our African Family - these blessed brothers and sisters in Christ who we are privileged to know and serve - people like Charles and Selina (pictured above) who we had the privilege of leading to Christ.
Unto thee, O God, do we give thanks, unto thee do we give thanks: for that thy name is near thy wondrous works declare. (Psa. 75:1)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"This was the best conference ever..." "I have never heard the Word taught like this before..." are just a few of the comments received after the recently completed Leadership Conference in Kitwe, Zambia. To God be the glory!
Thank you for praying for the 5th annual Central Africa Baptist Leadership Conference held last week. It was an unbelievable week of fellowship and growth through the Word. For a full update from the events last week and to view pictures from the week click here.

| Hunt Kids Launch MK Website - MissionaryKidz.com
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Austin has been working hard writing code, and Cherith has labored to write content for their new MK website. There are cool African animal photos that we have taken, Jungle Doctor stories can be found under the link Kidz Safari. There is even an article on what it like to be a missionary kid.
They hope to challenge children to consider surrendering their lives as missionaries to take the gospel to unreached people groups around the world. They also hope that the insight from kids on the mission field will encourage children to pray for the advance of the gospel around the world. You can check out the website by going to www.missionarykidz.com.
Pray for Lori and the children as they remain in Zambia while Phil is away.
Thank you for your faithful partnership through your prayers and financial support that makes the ministry in Zambia possible. We appreciate your kind notes, cards and emails. May God receive the glory and praise as together we continue to labor for the gospel!
FCV Update
Dear Friend,
Changed lives - that is really what Faith Children's Village is all about.
The "insaka" in Bemba culture refers to the thatch structure in the center of a village where village meetings take place. The word has come to have a broader application referring to an organized meeting. Our insaka at Faith Children's Village is held the last Saturday of each month. The children and staff gather together under the thatch structure in the center of the village for a time of singing, sharing from the Word, games and birthday celebrations.
This past Saturday Domisani, Agrippa and Joseph, three of our boys responded to the invitation and professed faith in Christ for Salvation. One of the girls came for counseling with a spiritual problem that she has been struggling with.
"I thank God for my salvation..."
|
|
Faith Children's Village is not only about changed lives of the children, but changed lives even among the staff!
Each Tuesday Lori and I spend the day at the Village. I have the privilege of leading the staff in a discipleship Bible study each week. It has been such a blessing to help work through issues with the staff and see changes in the lives of our children.
In a recent Tuesday staff meeting I asked for testimonies. Mary gave the following testimony:
"I am so thankful to God for my salvation. He delivered me from darkness. I was ignorant of who God was. At that time I was the witch-doctor for the community in Kakolo, I used to talk to the spirits, I didn't know. I was actually talking to demons and they were talking to me. But God brought light and truth and I received Jesus Christ as my Savior. I am so happy, now I know, now I am free and I am serving God."
Mary's came to know Christ through the gospel witness of Faith Baptist Church in Kakolo. A couple years ago she was hired as an assistant house mother. Beginning this month, Mary has been promoted to senior house mother. She looks after 12 boys in house #1 - they love her.
FCV Update
FCV ZAMBIA UPDATE April 09
Two years ago Faith Children’s Village hired Mr and Mrs George Yembe to join the management team at Faith Children’s Village.
Within a short period of time problems arose that created great tension with both children and staff.
After trying to resolve the issues biblically to no avail, the Zambia Board of Directors of Faith Children’s Village unanimously voted to terminate the employees contract.
Though the termination was done according to the stipulations of the contract and according to the labor laws of Zambia, Mr & Mrs Yembe filed a lawsuit against Faith Children’s Village for unlawful breach of contract.
The lawsuit is seeking $15,000 in damages and lost employment opportunities.
On Monday morning, 6 April, this case is scheduled to be heard in Kitwe District Court. Our lawyer assures us that the case has no merit and that FCV has handled matters according to the law.
Pray for Joe Mbewe (pictured above) and me as we head into court on Monday. Ask that the case might finally be heard and resolved - it has been postponed several times. Pray that truth and justice might prevail. Pray that in all things God might receive the glory and praise.
Thank you for being a friend of Faith Children’s Village, Zambia.
Dear Friend,
In his last radio interview before being killed by Auca spears in the jungles of
Ecuador missionary Nate Saint said, "People who do not know the Lord ask why in
the world we waste our lives as missionaries. They forget that they too are expending
their lives ... and when the bubble has burst, they will have nothing of eternal
significance to show for the years they have wasted."
How we pray that our lives will not be wasted but invested in that which will last\
for all eternity - the souls of men and women, boys and girls across the continent
of Africa!
"I have never heard this before."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Cyrus a 22 year old man responded after I had opportunity to share the gospel with
him. Cyrus was visiting relatives in Kitwe while on break from his college studies.
I noticed that he had listened to intently to the message preached by Ken, one
of our CABC students during a Saturday sports outreach. Afterward, I approached
him and had opportunity to share the gospel. Cyrus is religious. His family is
Roman Catholic and he was raised in the church. As we walked through Scripture
from the Old Testament the law, condemnation and then saw in the New Testament
that God through Christ provided a means of forgiveness and redemption - Cyrus exclaimed,
"I have been a Catholic all my life, but I have never heard this before." Though
Cyrus did not make a profession of faith, he did promise to read some literature
and spend time in prayer asking God to reveal to him truth. Several other young
people did profess faith in Christ that day. Please pray for Zambians young and
old to come to Christ!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The first time he stood there as a two-year old he cried the entire time...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
He was only two then. His mother and I made him stand there with his Sunday School
class while they sang during the Easter service. Last Sunday evening Austin again
stood on the platform in the same church and preached his first message. Austin
was asked by Pastor Chishimba to preach the evening message during the annual "Youth
Sunday" at Faith Baptist Church here in Kitwe. It was a blessing to quietly watch
Austin prepare and then on Sunday evening demonstrate the grace of God as he clearly
communicated the truths that God has taught him from Galatians 5.

The tree is fine... Eddie isn't...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Last week two of our children at Faith Children's Village were involved in an accident.
Eddie was the worse for running into the tree - he sustained a deep cut and a fracture
on his right leg. Thankfully he is making a quick recovery and today should be
released from the clinic. Please remember to pray for the ministry of the Village
- for safety for the children and for wisdom to shepherd their lives toward God.
Deborah is struggling...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
She lost both of her parents to AIDS. Soon Deborah will be 15 years old. She is
a bright girl and over the few years she has been at FCV has excelled in her studies.
But she is struggling inside - she is troubled that she is so old and those she
goes to class with in the 6th grade are much younger. Her struggle is also due
to the fact that she desperately wants a family... Deborah has never met any relative
on her mother's side of the family. The few relatives on the father's side are
unable to keep her. Perhaps only those who have experienced being orphaned and
"unwanted" can fully appreciate how difficult it is for some of our children. Will
you please pray for Deborah every day this week - that she would know victory and
embrace the love and acceptance of God and of her family at Faith Children's Village?
Please remember to pray for our ministry to the orphans. To learn more about Faith
Children's Village visit our website: www.faithinzambia.com.
Please pray:
* Monthly support need - Central Africa Baptist College is in need of immediate
monthly support.
* Rhino Beer & Pool Hall - Still asking God to move the owner to sell this property
to the college
* Kenya Leadership Conference - Next week Steve Hafler and I will be in Kenya speaking
at a Leadership Conference for pastors.
* Todd Beaman - Our friend and colleague Todd Beaman flew to South Africa yesterday
facing surgery for gall bladder problems. Please pray for Todd to receive a correct
diagnosis, treatment and quick recovery.
* The lawsuit against Faith Children's Village is now scheduled for hearing April
6th. Thank you for standing with us in prayer!
