FCV Multi-Purpose Education Building

Prepared by: Philip Hunt, Director

April 22, 2011

Project Summary

Objective

Construct of a Multi-Purpose Hall & Education Building at Faith Children’s Village Orphanage.  This building will meet the urgent need for a school building that will facilitate the education of orphaned children in Zambia.

Goals

Begin construction May 2012 and complete by November of 2012.  Open for the next Zambian academic year beginning January 2013

Reason For the Project

The need to provide a suitable environment for the education of the children at Faith Children’s Village.  The children leave the Village before 6am for the 1.5 hour trip into the city of Kitwe.  The children do not return until 4:30 in the afternoon.  The travel is tedious and extremely costly due to poor road conditions. In addition to transportation costs, the trip involves risk as they must cross the Kafue River by boat.  This together with the increased cost of school fees created an unsustainable financial pressure on the orphanage. The FCV Board therefore approved the opening of a primary school at FCV.

Specifications

The building consists of:

    • A large multi-purpose hall that can be used for general meetings at the orphanage, indoor play area for the children, and will be adequate to use for youth camps during school breaks.
    • Eight individual classrooms, with the option of constructing eight additional classrooms in the future.
    • Size: 53.5 meters by 25.8 meters (171 feet x 82.56 feet).
